Dallas County Adds 46 Deaths, 2,626 COVID-19 Cases In Past Week – The Dallas Morning News

Update: Editor’s note: This is the last installment of The Dallas Mornings News’ weekly roundup of North Texas and Texas coronavirus data. While we will continue to write articles about the impact of the coronavirus, we won’t write a weekly story about the numbers unless cases spike again.

Dallas County reported 46 more COVID-19 deaths and 2,626 new coronavirus cases in the past week.

In the previous seven-day period, 2,935 cases were reported.

“These deaths are almost exclusively preventable illnesses,” County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement. “Don’t leave an irreplaceable loss for your family. Help protect your community and yourself.”

Of the new cases, 1,992 were confirmed and 634 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 570,055, including 470,609 confirmed and 99,446 probable. The death toll is 6,035.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 397. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 694.

The county reported that 167 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 1,805,764 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,549,700 — 63% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Texas

The state reported 24,521 more cases in the past week — about 6,400 fewer cases than were reported in the last seven-day period.

The number included 14,259 confirmed cases and 10,262 probable cases.

The state also reported 820 COVID-19 deaths over the past week, raising its toll to 84,513.

The state’s case total is now 6,578,556 including 5,449,416 confirmed and 1,129,140 probable.

The average number of new daily cases in the state for the last two weeks is 3,960. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 9,127.

There are a total of 2,547 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the state, including 555 in North Texas.

According to the state, 20,456,880 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 17,299,948 — 64.2% of the state’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 90 deaths and 1,308 cases in the past week. In the previous seven-day period, 2,771 cases were reported.

Of the new cases, 801 were confirmed and 507 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 559,524, including 454,215 confirmed and 105,309 probable. The death toll is 5,718.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 291. For the previous 14-day period, the daily average was 780.

The county reported that 144 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 1,333,995 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,174,571 —60.4% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Collin County

The state added 17 deaths and 1,141 cases to Collin County’s totals in the past week. In the previous seven-day period, 1,021 cases were reported.

Of the new cases, 670 were confirmed and 471 were probable.

There are now 204,600 total cases in Collin County, including 156,293 confirmed and 48,307 probable. The death toll is 1,455.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 154. For the previous 14-day period, the daily average was 320.

The county reported that 70 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 781,677 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 688,970 — 71.6% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County reported six deaths and 596 cases in the past week. In the previous seven-day period, 1,151 cases were reported.

The numbers bring the county’s case total to 177,215, including 123,636 confirmed and 53,579 probable. The death toll is 797.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 125. For the previous 14-day period, the daily average was 368.

The county reported that 26 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 610,086 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 543,365 — 65.5% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 25,991 cases (19,850 confirmed and 6,141 probable), 257 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 34,960 cases (27,812 confirmed and 7,148 probable), 523 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 48,417 cases (37,906 confirmed and 10,511 probable), 573 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 41,910 cases (32,538 confirmed and 9,372 probable), 712 deaths.
